Dulles,
VA July 15, 2008 – Encore Networks,
a leading supplier of industrially
hardened VPN based network security
appliances, today announced that it
has been granted a patent by the U.S.
Patent and Trademarks Office under
U.S. Patent Number 7,360,083. This
patent relates to Encore’s innovative
method for providing security solutions
to aid protocol acceleration over satellite
networks using Selective Layer Encryption
(SLE). SLE is an encryption technology
that securely connects satellite networks
with terrestrial links as part of an
end-to-end Virtual Private Network
(VPN) solution.
The breakthrough architecture of SLE
technology fully interoperates with all
satellite modems from leading vendors.
Unlike traditional VPN solutions, which
are cumbersome and slow performing over
satellite connections, SLE supports optimal
high-speed connectivity over both TCP
and UDP-based applications.
“SLE, which is featured in Encore’s
industrially hardened and commercial
grade security products, has been adopted
and deployed by satellite carriers worldwide,”
stated Krishna Ragireddy, Encore Networks
Vice-President of Engineering. “It has
consistently exhibited maximum throughput
capabilities in both satellite and hybrid
networks while optimizing the performance
of key applications.”
Running IPsec based solutions over TCP
accelerated satellite connections, as
part of a site-to-site VPN solution,
imposes an unacceptable throughput limitation
on each connection. SLE overcomes this
performance degradation and allows encryption
and VPN capabilities at maximum link
speed.
Mr. Ragireddy continued, “SLE enables
satellite carriers and systems integrators
to rollout value-added secure broadband
services that compete effectively against
alternative broadband technologies.”
