Dulles,
VA. June 23, 2003 – Encore
Networks, a leading developer of integrated
IP+Legacy Virtual Private Network (VPN) security
solutions, today announced the addition of
Bisync 3270/3275 support to its entire line
of IP+Legacy VPN and data access products,
providing protocol conversion for legacy
protocols over IP packet networks for Automated
Teller Machines (ATMs), and retail Point
of Sale (POS) terminals.
According to the ATM
Industry Association, of the million plus
ATMs nationwide, most are based on legacy
technologies like bisync, poll-select (TC500),
and SDLC that operate over slow, expensive
analog leased line circuits. Now, with
Encore’s innovative “IP+Legacy” VPN
solutions and ELIOS™ support of bisync
protocol conversion to IP, ATMs appear
to the transaction host as IP end-points.
This provides banks with a cost effective,
end-to-end IP migration strategy without
the need for a forklift upgrade of their
ATMs, and at the same time allows for interoperability
with IP-based front-end processors. Also,
it significantly lowers the cost of supporting
and managing their legacy hosts and mainframes
by reducing the need for expensive maintenance
contracts.
“The support of
bisync to IP conversion by our feature-rich
ELIOS™ operating system allows banking
and retail customers to modernize and economize
their networks to take advantage of faster
packet-based technologies while providing
a clear migration path to secure VPN applications
over IP,” stated Abir Hnidi, Chief
Technology Officer of Encore Networks. “This
is the latest example of our long term
strategy to continue enhancing our IP+Legacy
VPN solution suite to attack new vertical
market opportunities.” |

In addition
to immediate costs savings, Banking and Retail
customers can realize additional benefits
by deploying Encore's bisync to IP conversion
solutions. Such benefits include: |
- The ability of Banking and Retail enterprise
customers to focus on their core business
-
The ability to outsource
their legacy networks to carriers and consolidate
various legacy applications over IP
-
The flexibility to interface
with different ETF (Electronic Transfer
Funds) entities to expedite transaction
processing and multi-party settlements
-
The ability to deploy,
best-of-breed, off-the-shelf, IP-based software
applications that allow them to introduce
additional, high-margin incremental services.
-
Improves the efficiency
and the response time of performing and
conducting financial transactions
- Improves the overall network availability,
reliability, and manageability

“Banks
found it relatively easy to convert most “platform” applications
from mainframes to IP-based servers and personal
computers, but most existing ATMs can’t
easily change from legacy leased-line protocols
to IP,” said William A. Flanagan, President
of Flanagan Consulting. “The ability
to convert bisync to IP in a compact VPN router
with built-in dial backup lets a bank put
an ATM on the office LAN without compromising
information security or availability.” |
