Dulles,
VA. September 29, 2005 – Encore
Networks, a leading developer of Virtual
Private Network (VPN) security solutions
and satellite communications Value Added
Reseller, Orbital Data Net have teamed to
provide secure satellite broadband communications
to the Parks Division of the Missouri Department
of Natural Resources. Orbital has deployed
Encore’s VPN router, the VSR-30™,
as a VSAT solution in locations throughout
Missouri State Parks where secure broadband
access has previously been unavailable.
Encore’s VSR-30™, with patent
pending Selective Layer Encryption (SLE),
enables satellite users, running encrypted
applications over IP, to realize the benefits
of broadband communications without the
significant performance degradation that
is typically associated with using IPsec
on hybrid satellite-terrestrial circuits.
“Running IPsec based encryption
as part of an end-to-end satellite VPN
solution has always imposed an unacceptable
throughput limitation on each connection,” stated
Greg Heifner, Orbital Data Net CEO. “The
SLE feature in the VSR-30 overcomes this
performance degradation and allows encryption
and VPN capabilities to process at full
link speed, while optimizing the performance
of key applications.”
Orbital Data Net is a privately held
company specializing in mobile and fixed
remote satellite based solutions for government
and commercial users operating beyond the
reach of traditional terrestrial communications.
Orbital designs and manages these networks
blending technologies such as VSAT, DSL,
fiber, and power line connectivity.
Encore Network’s security products,
including the VSR-30™, are uniquely
versatile IP+Legacy and IP only VPN appliances
that support IPsec VPN, stateful inspection
firewall, IP routing and QoS, numerous
legacy data protocols, and Selective Layer
Encryption. The ability to perform SLE
to IPsec tunnel switching allows satellite
operators to offer their customers both
end-to-end on-net and off-net VPN solutions.
Heifner continued, “Encore and
Orbital have worked closely to simplify
last mile encrypted VPN solutions that
meet the stringent performance requirements
of today’s satellite networks, either
large or small, without the need for leased
data circuits. The remote maintenance feature
of the VSR-30 allows us to maintain the
network twenty-four hours per day, seven
days per week, with no truck rolls.”
