Dulles,
VA. October 24, 2005 – Encore
Networks, a developer of Virtual
Private Network (VPN) security
solutions, today announced that Satellite
Communication Technology Ltd. (SCT), an authorized
airtime distributor for Eutelsat, has selected
Encore Networks to provide secure, site-to-site
satellite connectivity at remote
construction sites in the United Kingdom.
SCT has deployed Encore’s
VSR-30™ IP VPN router for Skanska,
the European construction giant,
at sites where temporary and secure
communications is required immediately and
where installing terrestrial circuits would
cause unacceptable time and logistical constraints.
“Satellite broadband enables Skanska’s
communication system to be up and running
the day they arrive on site and provides
the flexibility to transfer all network
equipment and services to a new construction
site when the current project ends”,
stated Steve Chilver, SCT Chief Executive
Officer. “Encore’s VSR-30 allows
Skanska to retain complete control of their
network and provides the freedom to run
all existing applications without modification.”
Encore’s VSR-30™ provides
high performance, end-to-end VPN
solutions and includes features such as
IP routing via Selective Layer Encryption,
advanced QoS capabilities, a stateful packet
inspection firewall, embedded address management
capabilities such as NAT and PrAT, in addition
to VPN flavors such as IPsec, and GRE.
All functionality can be managed both in-band
and/or out-of-band either remotely or locally
via intuitive terminal access over a secure
connection. Also, interoperability with
standards and proprietary based methods
of TCP acceleration ensures smooth deployment
across multi-vendor satellite/terrestrial
networks.
SCT, an Authorized Encore Networks Reseller,
recommended the Encore solution for two
reasons. First, Encore’s industry
leading Selective Layer Encryption technology
that enables satellite operators, systems
integrators and enterprises to securely
connect satellite networks with terrestrial
Internet links as part of an end-to-end
VPN solution. Second, competing vendors
required Skanska to subscribe to a support
service that required information on their
applications and routing be divulged. The
Encore solution is application agnostic.
“The competing products we evaluated
required a detailed knowledge of Skanska’s
application infrastructure, which for security
and support reasons, the Skanska IT organization
was understandably unwilling to accept.
When security is paramount, no IT manager
is willing to provide such information
to anyone outside the company.” Chilver
continued, “We were able to introduce
the Encore appliances using SLE operating
in conjunction with the TCP acceleration
provided by ViaSat LinkStar modems, ensuring
that applications could be run in a VPN
environment with no modifications and without
any of the performance degradation normally
associated with IPSec implementations over
satellite.
