Dulles,
VA. March 1, 2004 – Encore
Networks, a leading developer of integrated
network security and access products, today
announced it will introduce, at the Satellite
2004 Conference and Expo, the VSR-30™,
a purpose-built Virtual Private Network (VPN)
router designed specifically to deliver accelerated
throughput as well as encryption over combined
broadband satellite and terrestrial networks.
Available immediately and list priced at
$995, the VSR-30™ is
the solution for satellite operators and
system integrators that need to securely
connect satellite networks with terrestrial
Internet links as part of an end-to-end VPN
solution.
IEC projects that broadband
satellite service revenues will increase
from $15 billion this year to $40 billion
in 2010 and will account for 30 percent
of all broadband services revenues worldwide.
Security concerns dictate the need to encrypt
satellite communications. However, encrypting
satellite communications that subsequently
flow through the Internet as part of an
overall site-to-site solution often imposes
an unacceptable throughput limitation on
each connection. The VSR-30™ solves
this problem.
“Broadband access
services over satellite networks will experience
significant growth over the next few years,” stated
Abir Hnidi, Encore Networks Chief Technical
Officer. “Encore is committed to
addressing the VPN requirements of the
satellite market via the delivery of the
VSR-30™ VPN solution, coupled with
its innovative Selective Layer Encryption
capabilities.”
Installed like any common
terrestrial-based VPN router, the VSR-30 provides
high performance, end-to-end VPN solutions
and includes standard features such as
IP routing via Selective Layer Encryption,
advanced QoS capabilities, a stateful packet
inspection firewall, embedded address management
capabilities such as NAT and PrAT, in addition
to VPN flavors such as IPsec, and GRE.
All functionality can be managed both in-band
and/or out-of-band either remotely or locally
via intuitive terminal access over a secure
connection.
The VSR-30™, with
its feature-rich ELIOS™ operating
system and built-in support of Selective
Layer Encryption capability, brings terrestrial
VPN high performance to satellite networks.
Also, interoperability with standards and
proprietary based methods of TCP acceleration
ensures smooth and easy deployment across
multi-vendor satellite-terrestrial networks.
Such functionality opens up new markets
for satellite operators and systems integrators
and allows them to offer a wide variety
of applications and value-added services
to their SME customers. Such applications
