Encore Networks today announced that it has teamed with Telit, a global enabler of the Internet of Things (IoT), to allow the EN-1000™ router to leverage Sprint’s Category 1 LTE network for IoT applications. The Telit LE910C1-NS module, certified for use on the Sprint 4G LTE network, allows Encore to provide a replacement router for millions of devices now deployed on aging 2G/3G networks which cellular carriers have announced phasing out by early 2020. Available in commercial grade and industrially hardened versions, the Sprint EN-1000™ router will be on display at ISC West, April 11-13 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Booth #33100.

Prior to the national availability of LTE, the 2G/3G networks dominated IoT applications. Using 2G/3G requires more radio spectrum per bit transmitted than LTE. Carriers are re-farming their spectrum from 2G/3G to 4G to meet the soaring demand for higher speed, low latency data services. This means users with 2G/3G devices must find a solution to replace existing units. CAT 1 LTE is a resource-efficient use of that spectrum for lower speed IoT devices that can seamlessly coexist with faster, higher-category LTE connections on the same cell towers. The Sprint CAT 1 EN-1000™ router not only future proofs end users with LTE capability, but the additional low latency bandwidth provides for new technologies like video and VoIP.

“Enterprises are utilizing IoT to deliver new business supporting markets including utility and energy companies, remote monitoring and security,” said Dennis Kelly, Senior Vice President of Telit Americas. “Connecting the IoT requires anywhere, anytime networking which is scalable, flexible and secure, in other words, 4G LTE.”

The utilization of Telit’s new CAT 1 optimized hardware platform allows Encore the ability to offer 4G enabled products that, when paired with aggressive carrier rate plans, can deliver a better ROI than previously seen with 3G enabled products.

“Using the Telit module in the EN-1000 design allows us to introduce the most cost-efficient router on the Sprint CAT 1 network,” said Tom Kittle, Director of Strategic Accounts. “The low cost of the EN-1000 will ease the financial pain of migration to LTE for the millions of 2G connections now deployed.”
